The Benediction 1
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen… Romans 16:25
These oft memorized, but not scrutinized scriptures contain a wealth of doctrine and hope for the believer. This benediction speaks of God’s power change one’s life and destiny – “to stablish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ”. It speaks of God eternal being – “the everlasting God” and it speaks to true wisdom that only comes from God – “God only wise”. That the gospel is given to all men is made clear – “made known to all nations”. All the glory that we can give God is wrapped up in our relationship and fellowship with His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – “be glory through Jesus Christ for ever”.
